The Seven Dwarfs of Fibromyalgia
I survived my week of nights (just about 😂). My sugars ran consistently high, although I managed to get them back down towards the end of the week. I also forgot to take my Basal Insulin one night 🤦🏼♀️
I've found getting back into a normal routine much tougher than the actual night shifts. Monday night, I was wide awake between 01:00 - 06:00 and woke up Tuesday morning feeling like death.
My Fibromyalgia has flared up which is the last thing I need. I can always tell when a flare is coming as I start feeling like someone is pinching the base of my skull. I also get bags so big under my eyes, I look like I've been in a fight (and lost!)
For those who are unaware, Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition that causes wide-spread pain, fatigue and a host of other symptoms. One of my favourite descriptions of it is 'The Seven Dwarfs of Fibromyalgia':
I treat flares with Codeine and sleep. Generally when I have a flare, my BG tends to run lower than usual which I find interesting.
And now, for the cherry on top of the pudding... I have just started my period. I guess it's true what they say about bad luck coming in three's.
So for now, I am going to nurse myself back to health with a combination of drugs, hot baths, sleep and chocolate.
