Hi guys, my name is Jade and I have recently been diagnosed (July 2019) as a Type 1 Diabetic aged 27.
I am not usually the type to open myself up like this and I was going to start a private journal to document my journey. I decided to create a blog instead as I have spent HOURS trawling through websites and forums and the information isn't the easiest to digest.
I also feel isolated. My support network has been amazing, but it's not the same as having someone to talk to that is in the same boat. And so, Diabetic Unicorn was born.
Why the Diabetic Unicorn? Well, I envisage that my blood is so full of sugar that it is actually rainbow coloured and glittery, which is how I imagine a unicorn to be. Think of Harry Potter and the unicorn with silver blood!
Although Diabetes is crappy, it's not the death sentence it used to be. I am optimistic about getting my rainbow blood back to normal. I am determined to make Diabetes fit in with my life rather than the other way round.
I will be sharing the good, the bad and the ugly to give an honest portrayal of what it is really like to be a (relatively) normal young person living with this invisible illness.
